Intended Audience
A Moving and Handling (Care) course is designed for people who need to safely move or assist others as part of their job, particularly in health and social care settings.
Typical learners include:

Care assistants and support workers

Nursing and residential care home staff

Home carers / domiciliary care workers

Hospital healthcare assistants

Physiotherapy and occupational therapy assistants

Support staff in supported living services

Nurses and midwives (for refresher/update training)

NHS and private healthcare staff involved in patient handling

Some school SEN support staff (where physical assistance is required)
It may also be used for:

Employers responsible for manual handling risk reduction in care environments
Course Aim's
The main aims are to ensure learners can move and handle people safely while reducing risk of injury to both the worker and the person being assisted.
Course Duration
3 hours without equipment training, 6 hours with equipment training.
Course Validation
It is recommended this course is completed every year.
Course Content

Understand legal responsibilities under UK manual handling regulations

Reduce risk of injury to staff and service users

Promote safe working practices in care environments

Identify hazards and assess risks before moving a person

Use correct moving and handling techniques
-
Maintain dignity, comfort, and safety of the individual being moved

Use equipment safely (e.g. hoists, slide sheets, transfer boards)
-
Prevent musculoskeletal injuries (especially back injuries)
-
Work effectively as part of a team when required
