First Aid at Work

Intended Audience

​The First Aid at Work courses are intended for employees who have been nominated to act as an appointed  first aider in the workplace environments where a full first aider is required under health and safety regulations. Our accredited First Aid at Work training courses help businesses meet workplace safety requirements while equipping employees with life-saving skills. We provide HSE-compliant first aid certification, emergency first aid training, refresher courses and on-site workplace training throughout Liverpool and the surrounding areas

Typical intended audiences include:

  • Staff appointed as workplace first aiders after a first aid needs assessment

  • Employees working in higher-risk environments such as:

    • construction

    • Health Care

    • manufacturing

    • warehousing

    • engineering

    • logistics

    • agriculture

  • Supervisors, managers, or team leaders responsible for health and safety

  • Businesses with larger workforces or more complex hazards

  • Organisations needing compliance with the UK’s Health and Safety Executive workplace first aid requirements

Course Aims

 

This qualification enhances skills in delivering first aid in the workplace, effectively supporting your role. It adheres to the Health and Safety (First) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations Northern Ireland) 1982, ensuring compliance essential regulatory standards. Upon completing this course, you'll be prepared to confidently manage emergency situations.

Qualification Validity

 

This Course is valid 3 Years from the issuing of the certificate

Course Entry Requirement

  • No prior knowledge is required to enrol on this course.

  • Learners should be a minimum of 14 years to undertake this qualification

  • Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole  first aider.

  • Learners must have sufficient command of the English language to understand and undertake the recommended assessment methods for this qualification

  • Learners must demonstrate first aid procedures as part of their assessment, including providing CPR to a casualty on the floor. Therefore, learners must be physically capable of performing CPR on the floor.

  • There are no other pre-requisites for this qualification.

Course Content

  • ​Identification of the roles and responsibilities of a first aider

  • Minimising the risk of infection

 

  • Identifying the need to gain consent 

 

  • Conducting a scene survey 

 

  • The primary survey sequence

 

  • Summoning appropriate assistance

  • ​identify when appropriate to perform CPR

  • Demonstrating  CPR Chest Compressions

  • Demonstrate how to providing rescue breaths

 

  • Identify when to use an AED and demonstrate the application and use of an AED (Defibrillator)

  • Identifying when to place the casualty into the recovery position

  • Demonstrate Placing a casualty into the recovery position

  • Continually monitoring airway and breathing so that cardiac arrest can be identified immediately.

  • Identify when a casualty is having a seizure.

  • Administering first aid to a casualty having a generalised seizure

 

  • Identifying mild and severe choking

 

  • Administering first aid for a choking casualty

 

  • Identifying the severity of arterial bleeding and venous bleeding.

 

  • Identifying a Capillary bleeding 

 

  • Administering first aid for external bleeding

  • Identify Catastrophic bleeding and how to treat it

  • Identifying a person who is in Shock

  • Administering first aid for hypovolaemic shock

 

  • Administering first aid for small cuts and grazes

  • Administering first aid for a person with a Small splinter, including removal.

  • Administering first aid for a person having nose bleed.

 

  • Administering first aid for minor burns and scalds

  • Identify the information to be collected when gathering a casualty history

  • Demonstrate how to conduct a head-to-toe survey

  •  

  • Provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints.

  • Demonstrate how to apply a support and elevated sling

  • Be able to identify and administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries.

  • Be able to identify and provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries.

  • Identify when and how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury.

  • Identify when and how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected poisoning.

  • Identify when and to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.

  • Recognise and be able to treat a casualty suffering from a  Heart Attack

  • Recognise and be able to treat a casualty suffering from a Stroke

  • Recognise and be able to treat a casualty suffering from an Epileptic seizure

  • Recognise and be able to treat a casualty suffering from an Asthma attack

  • Recognise and be able to treat a casualty suffering from a Diabetic hypoglycaemic emergency
