Emergency First Aid
Intended Audience
The Emergency First Aid at Work course is intended for employees who have been nominated to act as an emergency first aider in the workplace. It is suitable for individuals working in low-risk environments such as offices, shops, schools, hospitality, and small businesses, as well as anyone requiring basic first aid knowledge and skills to respond to workplace emergencies in accordance with UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.
Course Aims
This qualification enhances skills in delivering emergency first aid in the workplace, effectively supporting your role. It adheres to the Health and Safety (First) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations Northern Ireland) 1982, ensuring compliance essential regulatory standards. Upon completing this course, you'll be prepared to confidently manage emergency situations.

Course Entry Requirement

Learners should be a minimum of 14 years to undertake this qualification

Learners between 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole emergency first aider.

Learners must have sufficient command of the English language to understand and undertake the recommended assessment methods for this qualification

Learners must demonstrate first aid procedures as part of their assessment, including providing CPR to a casualty on the floor. Therefore, learners must be physically capable of performing CPR on the floor.

Where learners are unable to perform practical tasks, they may opt to undertake the Level 2 Award in Essential First Aid

Demonstrating CPR Chest Compressions

Providing rescue breaths

Use of an AED (Defibrillator)

Identifying when to place the casualty into the recovery position

Administering first aid to a casualty having a generalised seizure

Identifying mild choking may include recognising the casualty is able to:

Identifying the severity of arterial bleeding

Identifying the severity of venous bleeding

Identifying a Capillary bleeding

Administering first aid for external bleeding

Identifying a person who is in Shock

Administering first aid for small cuts and grazes

Administering first aid for a person with a Small splinter, including removal.
